语法tips：一些表示愿望、建议、请求、命令等含义动词的宾语从句需要使用由“should + 动词原形”组成的虚拟语气，其中should可以省去（上面的例子即省去了should）。 1. pull down在上面的例句中是“摧毁”的意思。除此之外，pull down something还可以表示“挣了（一定数量的）钱”。 He pulled down $2,000,000 in the stock market. 他在股市里赚了两百万美元。 2. pull somebody down则可以用来表示“使某人精神沮丧”。比如，你期末考试成绩不理想，就可以说： The results of my final exams really pulled me down. 期末考试的成绩让我很沮丧。

3. pull-down menu则是一个计算机词汇，表示“下拉菜单”。什么？你说中文你也看不懂？下面的图就是“下拉菜单”，这下能看懂了吧～

The time is ripe for a drastic reform. 巨大变革的时机成熟了。

1. be ripe for something表示“为……做好了准备；……的时机成熟了”。我们还可以用be ready for something这个比较常见的词组来表示同样的意思。 2. ripe这个单词本身除了表示“（时机）成熟的”外，还有“（庄稼、果实等）成熟的”这个意思。如果想表示一个人“年纪非常大了”，我们可以用ripe old age这个固定搭配。 He died at the ripe old age of 101. 他在101岁高龄时去世了。

I stumbled across this problem when I was working on something else. 我在做别的事时碰巧遇到过这个问题。

1. stumble across something是“偶然发现某事”的意思。除了用across外，我们还可以用on或upon这两个介词和它搭配。 Researchers stumbled upon the solution in an accident. 研究者在一次意外中偶然发现了解决方案。 2. stumble的本意是“绊脚；蹒跚”，如果我们想要表示“被……绊到”，可以用介词over或者on来搭配。 I stumbled over the steps on my way in. 我进来时绊到了楼梯。 3. stumble over除了“被……绊到”的意思外，还可以用来表示“（说话时）结结巴巴”。很多人在做演讲的时候会特别紧张，讲话都不顺畅了。 Lots of people will stumble over words when making a public speech. 许多人在做公共演讲的时候都会结巴。

He took the problem in his stride. 他轻而易举地应付了这个问题。

1. take something in one's stride可以用来表示“从容应对某事”。stride既可以表示“大步；阔步”，也有“进步；进展”的意思。表示“有很大的进展”，除了用make great/major/giant improvement这个很常见的短语之外，我们还可以用make great/major/giant stride这个短语。 The country has made major stride in its economic development. 该国的经济取得了巨大的发展。 2. get into one's stride这个词组可以用来表示“充满干劲地做某事”，从字面上来看，get into one's stride就是“开始昂首阔步地走”，看起来特别有信心，是不是很好理解呢？这个词组是英式英语的用法，在美式英语中，我们则可以用hit one's stride来表示相同的意思。 He began hitting his stride after his conversation with the professor. 他和教授谈话后就开始充满干劲了。
